Podcast, Its quite possible that most of you might not going to read this whole article. But what if it was read out loud to you while doing some chores around the house, driving to work, working out at the gym or just while spending a leisure time?
Imagine listening to a smooth, relaxing and enticing voice like Rihanna. You’d be hanging on every word, and ready for the next episode immediately after. That is the beauty of podcasts, and today it’s the next big thing in India. The rise of digital media such as podcasts has only continued to rise in this COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Podcast ing is quickly becoming a buzz word among the techie crowd. But what is podcasting?
Podcast, Although podcasting is new, it is well on its way to becoming a mainstream communication medium. It is a way of distributing audio files via the Internet. A podcast is an audio file that can be downloaded from the Internet, often in MP3 format. Once a podcast has been downloaded, it can be listened to on a computer, or be transferred to a portable device such as an iPod or other Portable Media Player (PMP), a mobile phone, or a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
It has been said that in October of 2004 a Google search returned less than 6,000 results for the term “podcasting”. Today, a similar search yields more than 2,00,00,00,000 results. Like the blogging phenomenon, podcasting has come out of nowhere and attracted an enthusiastic following. After China and the US, India has emerged as the third largest podcast listening market in the world.
The current statistics for podcasting in 2021 show that:
Over 55% of the US population have listened to a podcast.
In 2020 over 155 million people listen to a podcast every week
Around 24% of the US population (68 million) listen to multiple podcasts
weekly
Podcast listeners consume an average of seven different shows per week
There are over 700,000 active podcasts and 29 million podcast episodes
available
The most popular age group for podcasts listeners is 25-44 which make up
49% of total listeners.
India’s familiarity with radio is another reason for its people jumping on the podcasts bandwagon. Unlike television and other screens, which requires singular attention, radio seldom stops household routines.
The advantage of the podcasting format is that it offers endless variety and options. Any topic a person may be interested in can usually be found online in podcast format. From a true crime podcast, comedy podcast, pop culture, news, opinions, there is something for everyone. And for a budding podcast creator, the ability to share information on a podcast hosting platform about their topic is easier than ever. Podcasts offer deep dives into the minds of industry thought leaders through interviews. In less than an hour per day, listeners can become industry experts on their favourite topics.
Well-conceived podcasts are an effective, portable, convenient and intimate way to deliver and produce content, and to build ongoing relationships with your clients, employees and constituents.
One thing is very clear as the podcasts trend continues to grow each year that we, the human beings love to listen to each other talk
Woahhh… Amazing
This is so much descriptive and motivating at the same time. Yes, podcast is getting a prior choice than any other medium in recent times because it’s the another form of radio which we are very fond of listening since our childhood.
